Weapon Adjustments
There are several changes pertaining to ‘Visual Recoil’ below. Though the systems that comprise ‘Visual Recoil’ are complex, we will be using the term loosely to describe the effects of camera or Weapon movement that may not be directly tied to its Recoil behavior.

NOTES:
We would like to take a moment to discuss some of our upcoming plans as well as how our Weapon balance philosophy will be changing in Caldera. We will be looking to take on a more incremental approach to Weapon nerfs. We understand it can be frustrating to commit a great deal of time to a Weapon to have its viability completely stripped in an unexpected balance patch. We would like to reiterate that our north star is Weapon diversity. With that being said, we feel it is appropriate to announce that in the near future we will be making some adjustments to the Light Machine Gun Charlie (VG) and the Submachine Gun Charlie (VG) - with the intent of closing the gap between these two Weapons and their competitors. In addition, we will be toning down what is often referred to as ‘Visual Recoil’ on Vanguard Assault Rifles. We feel this will help promote a healthier, more diverse pool of mid to long-range Weapons.
Attachment Adjustments
» Barrel «
» Perk «
The Akimbo Double Barrel (VG) was able to consistently achieve lethality at extreme ranges. While we agree that Shotguns should be the most lethal option within close quarters, once that range begins to encroach on Submachine Gun territory, we must intervene. It may seem peculiar that we are removing the Damage Range downside from the Attachment given previous statements, however a more significant reduction to its overall Damage will make the Akimbo Double Barrel (VG) feel less oppressive at extreme ranges while maintaining its effectiveness in close quarters.
Weapon Adjustments
When considering these changes in a vacuum, they may seem rather peculiar. Due to the nature of Vanguard Weapons, tuning is much less straightforward. Adjustments to base Weapons are not as impactful as they once were. Vanguard Attachments can completely alter the behavior of a Weapon—including its Damage profile, Fire Rate, and Recoil. When we make these adjustments, we are considering the Weapon holistically, in all its permutations. Our goal is for these Weapons to be just as viable with one of these Attachments as it can be with all of them. This allows the Weapons to support all sorts of playstyles and gameplay preferences rather than solely ‘Rapid Fire’.
» Assault Rifle «
We understand those who have taken a liking to the Cooper Carbine (VG) will be sad to see it receive some rather impactful adjustments (see additional changes in Attachment section below). The Cooper Carbine (VG) with all Fire Rate Attachments could reach near 1,200 RPM. Which, considering its innate accuracy and Assault Rifle Damage Range, was problematic. High Rate of Fire Weapons, of which many Vanguard Weapons can become, must be carefully tuned to offset the extreme level of forgiveness that trait provides. We believe in that regard, there is much work ahead of us. The Cooper Carbine (VG) is still going to be effective but is now more likely to lose fights to Submachine Guns in short-range engagements.
Attachment Adjustments
» Barrel «
As stated above, changes to Weapons and Attachments are not quite what they used to be. While we are reducing the amount of Recoil Control provided by these Barrels, this can easily be compensated for with other Attachments like Fore and Rear Grips. It may require popular builds to shift around somewhat, and as a result, other downsides like poor Mobility may become more apparent. We feel balancing risk versus reward is important. If each Weapon build were ‘one size fits all’, regardless of individual skill, we diminish our journey of mastery. Ideally, over time we graduate from needing an excess of Recoil Control from our attachments to prioritizing more beneficial attributes like Damage, Range, and Mobility.

As many of the changes below pertain to Recoil, we felt it was necessary to clarify the language used:

While these may seem like extreme changes to the damage potential of the 3-Line Rifle (VG), rest assured, its attachments still provide a considerable boost to lethality.

General
Weapon Adjustments
With this update, we have drastically reduced the amount of ‘Bloom’ on all base Vanguard Weapons. In the future, we will be removing Bloom from Vanguard Weapons entirely. This process will take time, as we will need to determine adequate downsides to counterbalance the removal of Bloom, which will vary based on each individual Weapon and the type of Attachment they are attributed to.
In addition, we are in the process of assessing Weapon ADS Speeds across Warzone. Stay tuned for more information.

Weapon Adjustments
Numerous changes have been made to Vanguard (VG) Weapons and Attachments. Names, Descriptions, Pros, Cons, and Stat Bars have been updated in-game to reflect these changes.
In addition to the above mentioned Vanguard changes, the following Modern Warfare (MW) and Black Ops Cold War (BOCW) Weapon adjustments have been made:
» Assault Rifle «
We do not believe the AK-47 (BOCW) is imbalanced. However, we want to stay on top of Weapons that have a consistently fast Time to Kill by ensuring their handling and behavior is consistent with other similarly effective Weapons.
The EM2 (BOCW) has exerted an impressive level of dominance over the long-range engagement space since its debut. Generally, this can happen when a Weapon’s Time to Kill potential is not met with adequate downsides. Slow-firing Weapons like the EM2 (BOCW) naturally lend themselves to higher-skilled players, as missed shots are far more detrimental. In the case of the EM2 (BOCW), we felt its mechanical input was not equivalent to its output. We have adjusted its Recoil behavior such that it will require more active Recoil countering. We are also reducing its Neck Multiplier - which will affect some of its ‘realistic’ TTK breakpoints while leaving its actual TTK potential unchanged.
» Marksman Rifle «
The Marksman Rifle Charlie (MW) and the Swiss K31’s (BOCW) have benefited greatly from heavily reduced Flinch - an attribute which has been exclusive to ‘aggressive’ snipers for quite some time. A considerable reduction to their base Flinch Resistance will require some acclimation, as veteran snipers will find that they can no longer challenge Assault Rifles as consistently while sustaining fire in long-range engagements.
The Crossbow (MW) and the R1 Shadowhunter (BOCW) have not received much attention since they landed in the Warzone. We are aiming to optimize their effectiveness without inadvertently creating all-out arrow warfare on Caldera.
» Melee «
Similar to the Crossbow (MW) and the R1 Shadowhunter (BOCW), we are increasing the effectiveness of the Ballistic Knife (BOCW). A single, well-aimed piece of Tactical Equipment can put an enemy within one-shot range to the Upper Torso, creating a surprising one-two punch.
Dying to Melee Weapons can often feel unfair (and unfun). Lunge distances could push some Melee Weapons over the edge when combined with the ability to achieve Melee Finisher damage in only two hits - giving Players only a few hundred milliseconds to react. As a result, even fully kitted Players could feel out-muscled in close quarters, which simply should not happen. Players wielding Melee Weapons will now be much less threatening granted there is not an overabundance of missed shots.
» Shotgun «
With its inherent BOCW mobility, and generous magazine sizes, the Shotgun Bravo (BOCW) has remained a force to be reckoned with despite receiving several balance changes. Reducing the Shotgun Bravo’s (BOCW) mobility will make it more susceptible to the downsides one would expect from Weapons in its class. Without that mobility to quickly close the gap into its deadly Maximum Damage Range, the Shotgun Bravo (BOCW) will become a more equitable selection.
» Sniper Rifle «
» Submachine Gun «
The OTs 9 (BOCW) has ruled over the short-range space for some time and changes to it will surely come as no surprise. As a preemptive measure, we will also be adjusting several Weapons that have been waiting in the wings to take its place once dethroned. While it is sad to see our favorite Weapons take a hit to their effectiveness, we feel the pool of viable short-range Weapons will benefit from this anticipatory adjustment.
NOTE: An imminent update will further address Bloom and include adjustments to Weapons including the PPSh-41 (VG).
Attachment Adjustments
» Optic «
The G16 2.5x has become the preferred Optic across Caldera. By shifting the eye position forward, we are creating a greater area of magnification which will better assist in carving out its identity.
» Stock «
Warzone is a living, breathing, ever-evolving game. This demands that we not only regularly reflect on precise Weapon details but that we also, at times, take great pause to assess the state of the game holistically. Games that progressively introduce content, like Warzone, run the risk of experiencing ‘power creep’. It is important that intermittently, we compress the power level of certain aspects in the game that may be at risk of endangering the greater balance. We believe that the influx of a considerable amount of content is a most opportune time - during which we feel it is appropriate to adjust the most powerful mobility Attachments in Warzone. The sheer existence of these Attachments significantly warps not just this Attachment category for BOCW Weapons, but also requires that any future Weapon that intends to identify as ‘highly mobile’ must contest these values as a baseline. This dynamic forces the power level to slowly rise over time, which in turn must elicit a correction. This change will not be the last in addressing Weapon attributes that reach a peak in power that must be compressed to preserve our delicate ecosystem.

Vanguard Royale
We've created a brand new Battle Royale experience, true to the spirit of Vanguard.
This new mode will focus on a few key pillars:
In addition to the above, a number of changes should be expected, including but not limited to:
Inspired by the positive reception of Operation: Flashback, the team wanted to bring these Public Events across to Vanguard Royale. We also heard the feedback that Players still wanted to feel a sense of strategy and mastery, so we have made some key changes to remove the haphazardness of Public Events in this mode.
Below is a list of all of the gameplay elements that are either included or excluded based on our WWII-era ruleset:
And as a special treat, we’re offering Players a chance to earn unique limited-time rewards including an Emblem and Calling Card.
Vanguard Resurgence
With thanks to our friends at Beenox, the beloved Resurgence gameplay experience drops into the Pacific! This mode is tailored to a selection of hand-picked POI’s on the new Caldera map. With a max Player count of 48, this mode will follow the same WWII-era ruleset designed for Vanguard Royale, but with the gameplay that Players have come to know and love from Rebirth Island.
This mode is a great way for players old and new alike to learn the new POI’s on the Caldera, with Rebirth Resurgence returning to the Playlist rotation on December 16th.
Battle Royale
The greatest Call of Duty sandbox ever! In this version of Caldera, anything goes. Access Vehicles, Weapons, Operators, Killstreaks, new Contracts, new Public Events and more from every timeline!
Whilst the overall game time for Battle Royale remains aligned with the Verdansk experience, we have used our learnings and findings from the past two years of Warzone development to refine the circle speeds to better reflect the size and topography of Caldera, with slower Circle closing speeds but a faster time between Circles to give players more time to traverse the peak!
Plunder
It wouldn’t be Warzone without there being big money on the line, with a Plunder experience built for the Caldera lining up on day one including all Vehicles, Weapons, Operators, Killstreaks, new Contracts and more from every timeline!
Thank you to all of our peers who helped bring Caldera to life... special shoutout to Sledgehammer Games, Beenox, Toys for Bob, and High Moon Studios.
New Map: Caldera
Caldera comprises 15 huge, distinct areas to explore and fight across once Operation Vulcan begins. There are also hundreds of lesser points of interest to investigate and use to your tactical advantage.
New Regions:
For a full breakdown of each new region, check out the Caldera Introduction blog here.
New Gulag
Created by our friends at High Moon Studios, this new Gulag experience is set deep within the mines of Caldera. Using all the learnings developed from the many Gulags that have been designed since Warzone launched in 2020, the team focused on both equality of the combat experience. Let's not forget about the all-important spectator experience as well - that is, if multiple of your Squad have been unfortunate enough to have been eliminated at once!
Rebirth Island
Rebirth Island will remain available to all Warzone players, whether or not they own Vanguard, during the initial 24 hour exclusive access period.
The map will then be removed from the Playlist until it returns on December 16th with the Week 2 Playlist update.
With the launch of Season One, all Warzone players can gain access to everything that Vanguard brought to the arsenal and barracks including but not limited to:
At the start of this season, cross-progression between Vanguard and Warzone will be enabled, allowing you to rank up through Seasonal Prestige and unlock new content through the Battle Pass and Challenges.
New Onboarding Tutorial
Developed by our friends at Toys for Bob, we have a brand new Tutorial ready for Players who are fresh to Warzone. This tutorial will take you into the heart of Caldera and teach you everything you need to know for survival.
Season One comes with more than just a shiny new map - including a slew of brand new features and important changes to features you’ve familiarized yourself with already.
New Vehicles
New Contracts
Three new types of Contract will spawn in Caldera including:
New Public Events
New Tac Map
New Mechanics
Gameplay Adjustments
We will continue to monitor the strength of this Field Upgrade over the season.
Lethal Equipment has been revised to pack a heavier punch. This balance pass should provide more versatility and provide more impactful hits for Players not at max plates. With this change if a lethal did not down a player with full plates it still will not. However, it will now be a critical hit to players with little or no plates (the exception being the throwing knife).
With these changes, our goal is to provide Players with a range of viable Tactical Equipment to choose from, rather than feeling disadvantaged for exploring outside of the commonly accepted choices - notably Stuns, Heartbeat Sensor, and Flash Grenades.
We know that the Gas Mask is a crucial tool for survival but at times it can also be detrimental. This change is intended to maintain Player agency and provide more control around the mask, while still giving players already inside the circle the tactical edge.
We’re introducing a revamped Settings menu layout inspired by Vanguard, including the following updates:
